Giant Storage Is Giving Back: Free Charity Storage for Local Charities in Salisbury, Yeovil, and Frome

Unlock the incredible impact of Free Charity Storage as Giant Storage proudly supports local charities across Salisbury, Yeovil, and Frome with a powerful and uplifting community initiative.

Running a local charity is no small thing. You’re juggling donations, equipment, stock, and volunteers, often from a back room, a borrowed garage, or wherever you can find space. Storage is one of those problems that never quite goes away, and it can take up time, money, and energy that you’d far rather spend on the people you’re there to help.

That’s why we’ve decided to do something about it. Giant Storage is offering one local charity in each of three of our locations, Salisbury, Yeovil, and Frome, a completely free 20ft steel storage container for 12 months, along with a free man and van service to help you move your kit in.

No catches. No hidden fees. Just solid, secure storage, handed over to organisations doing genuinely good work in our communities.

What We’re Offering

We know what it’s like to deal with storage that just about works. Damp sheds, overstuffed offices, containers that are too small or too expensive. We’ve been helping families and businesses across Wiltshire and Somerset sort their storage problems for years, and we want to put that experience to good use.

Here’s what the successful charities will receive:

  • One 20ft steel container, completely free of charge for 12 months
  • A free man and van service to help you load and move your belongings in
  • 24/7 access to your container, any day of the year
  • Drive-up ground-level access, so no lifts and no stairs to negotiate
  • CCTV-monitored, secure sites at each location
  • A review at the end of 12 months, with the possibility of continuing the arrangement

A 20ft container gives you 160 square feet of floor space, which is the equivalent of what you’d need to store the contents of a two to three-bedroom house. Whether you’re stocking donated goods, equipment for community events, seasonal supplies, or anything in between, it’s a serious amount of usable space.

How We’ve Already Helped

This isn’t something we’ve just decided to do. Quietly supporting people in our communities has always been part of how we operate, and in recent months alone, that’s taken a number of different forms.

When two local families were affected by house fires, we stepped in with free storage and removal support to help them get through an incredibly difficult time. For one of those families, we also donated essential items directly, because sometimes practical help goes beyond just finding somewhere to put things. No one should have to worry about where their belongings are going in the aftermath of something like that. We were glad to be able to take that pressure off.

“We couldn’t thank you enough for giving us that storage unit whilst we was getting all our stuff together from what people have donated us, you took away the stress off where we was going to store all off our stuff and made it easier for us, thank you so much from me, Josh and our 4 babies.”

Abigail Burden of Amesbury wrote, “I can’t even put into words how grateful I am for your support. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You’ve made a really difficult time so much easier.”

We’ve also been supporting the Old Sarum and Longhedge Community Pantry, a local food bank serving families in the Salisbury area, with free storage. The team there got in touch to say:

“Thank you for your incredible generosity.”

And we’re proud to be an ongoing supporter of the Amesbury Baby Bank, a charity that provides essential items for babies and young children in need across the Amesbury area, with free storage. They put it better than we ever could:

“Thank you! Without you guys, there would be no more Amesbury Baby Bank! Keep an eye out in the Stonehenge Trader for our Thank You!”

Closer to home in Salisbury, we also lent a vehicle to Central Fruits, a local fresh produce business, to bridge the gap while they needed additional transport during a period of expansion. Keeping a brilliant local business on the road and continuing to deliver quality produce to the community felt like exactly the right thing to do.

This kind of support is nothing new for us. Our track record goes back years, and we’re proud of every one of these moments.

In December 2023, we raised funds for St Osmond’s Primary School to help struggling parents with the cost of school uniforms and other essentials. We did it by recycling several tonnes of textiles through a recycling company and donating the proceeds directly to the school. Around the same time, we donated 15 working fridges to an African export company called Fridge Aid, which focuses on improving access to refrigeration for food storage and medicine in communities that need it most.

Earlier that year, in February 2023, we supported The Hair Extension Cave in getting two full vans of donations delivered to a port in Kent, ready for shipment to victims of the Turkey and Syria earthquake. We provided the vans and the team to make it happen. When people are in crisis on the other side of the world, every donation counts, and we wanted to make sure those donations actually got there.

And in 2022, we helped transport donations to Ukraine, supporting humanitarian aid efforts for some of the most vulnerable people affected by the conflict there.

That’s exactly why we do this. Whether it’s a local school, a food bank, a family in crisis, or communities thousands of miles away, if we can help, we will.

Why We’re Doing This

Giant Storage is a family-run business. We have six sites across Wiltshire and Somerset, and the communities we operate in matter to us. Salisbury, Yeovil, and Frome are all towns with strong voluntary sectors, and we know there are organisations in each of them doing vital work on tight budgets.

We’re also aware that storage is often a hidden headache for charities. It’s not glamorous. It doesn’t appear in grant applications. But the right storage can make a real difference to how smoothly an organisation runs, how quickly it can respond to need, and how much volunteer time gets eaten up moving things around.

We want to take that pressure off, and the response we’ve had from the organisations we’ve already supported tells us this is worth doing more of.

Stuart Romain, a customer at our Yeovil site, described working with us this way: “Giant Storage are very good indeed. They never shy away from the telephone, nor do they ignore emails, they are also very good at supporting you if you have queries. This is by far the best storage company.” That’s the kind of relationship we want to have with every charity we support too.

Who Can Apply

We’re looking for registered charities or community organisations based in or primarily serving Salisbury, Yeovil, or Frome. There are no restrictions on the type of work you do. Whether you support people in crisis, run community events, distribute food or clothing, support young people, or do something else entirely, we’d love to hear from you.

What we’re looking for is a genuine need for storage, a sense of how the space would be used, and a connection to the local community we serve.

Applications are open to one organisation per location. That means three successful charities in total across Salisbury, Yeovil, and Frome.

We will review all applications and be in touch with shortlisted organisations directly. At the end of the 12 months, we’ll sit down together and review how it’s gone, with a view to potentially continuing the arrangement.

How the Space Works in Practice

Our containers are solid steel shipping containers, not the lightweight plasterboard units you find at some storage facilities. They’re weathertight, secure, and built to last. Everything stored inside stays dry and protected.

Access is ground level and drive-up, which matters when you’re loading and unloading donations, equipment, or stock. You don’t need to plan around lifts, worry about stairs, or work around anyone else’s schedule. Your container is yours, and you can get to it whenever you need to, day or night.

Our Salisbury sites are well-positioned to serve organisations across the city and surrounding villages. Our Yeovil site is convenient for the town centre and the surrounding areas. Our Frome site is well-suited for organisations serving the town and the villages nearby.

How to Apply

To apply for a free container at one of our three locations, simply get in touch with us directly. Tell us a little about your organisation, the work you do, where you’re based, and how you think the storage would help.

You can apply by emailing us at [email protected] or by calling 01722 698 000. We’ll aim to respond to every application personally, because that’s how we do things.

Applications are open now. We’ll be reviewing them on a rolling basis and aim to have containers in use as soon as possible.

Giant Storage is a family-run business, and this initiative reflects something we genuinely believe in: that local businesses should look after the communities they’re part of. If your charity is based in Salisbury, Yeovil, or Frome, and you’re in need of reliable, secure, accessible storage, we’d love to hear from you. Email us at [email protected] or call 01722 698 000 and tell us about the work you do.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to apply?
Any registered charity or community organisation based in or primarily serving Salisbury, Yeovil, or Frome can apply. We’re not limiting applications to a specific cause or sector. If you do good work and need storage space, we’d genuinely like to hear from you.
How big is a 20ft container?
A 20ft container offers 160 square feet of floor space, which is roughly equivalent to a large living room or the contents of a two to three-bedroom house. It’s a good amount of practical space for donated goods, equipment, event supplies, or stock.
What does "free for 12 months" mean exactly?
It means there is no charge for the container rental for the first 12 months. There are no hidden fees, no administration charges, and no costs associated with the man and van service we include. After 12 months, we’ll review the arrangement together and discuss what happens next.
Can we access the container outside office hours?
Yes. All Giant Storage sites offer 24/7 access, every day of the year. You can come and go as your charity needs, without having to plan around restricted hours.
What happens at the end of 12 months?
At the end of the 12-month period, we’ll review how things have gone with each organisation. We’ll look at how the space has been used and whether continuing the arrangement makes sense. We’re open to that conversation.
Can we apply if our charity is based just outside Salisbury, Yeovil, or Frome?
We’re open to applications from organisations that are based in nearby villages or areas but primarily serve one of our three locations. If that sounds like you, get in touch and let’s have a conversation about it.
